Built in 1862, the historic home at 86 Cannon Street in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, has been owned by several prominent city residents, including Peter Poinsette, the brother of noted civil rights leader Septima Poinsette Clark. Marion and Lori Hawkins, the building’s new owners, had a vision for a luxury boutique inn that drew from historic elements and heritage colors. We worked in tandem with the property’s interior designer, Betsy Berry, to ensure the 86 Cannon brand presentation matched its interior mood: elegant, organic, textural and sophisticated. The numerals and primary wordmark are custom typography and the pointillized poinsettia motif is a nod to the building’s previous owners.
